Because I\u2019ve seen many of my classmates posting this kind of reflection,
I thought I\u2019d write one of my own as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I spent quite some time thinking about where to publish it.
Many classmates post on note.com, qiita.com, or medium.com,
but in the end, I felt that having my own space is the most freeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It only took me a morning to set up the website.
Whether there will be a second post\u2014well, I have no idea (haha).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of course, posting on other platforms would probably get me more exposure,
but honestly, I\u2019m not really looking for a big audience (lol).
The most important thing is to capture how I feel at this moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I won\u2019t go into too many details\u2014just recording the parts that left a strong impression on me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Simply put, it\u2019s a tuition-free learning institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But on the flip side, you don\u2019t earn a degree from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The focus of study is computer science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The system works like this: if you don\u2019t finish the assignments by the deadline, you get expelled.
If you complete them, the expulsion deadline is pushed back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reason is actually quite simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because my husband said he thought it was cool, I checked it out and thought it was cool too\u2014so I applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After all, it\u2019s free. (\u2190 Important) (Living expenses in Japan are really high!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A one-month-long entrance exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The admission criteria are unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In short, you just have to work hard not to fall behind everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Honestly, I never really thought I would pass this test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because to pass it, you have to force yourself to talk to people every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m really bad at dealing with people in the real world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, I\u2019m basically the kind of person who hides on the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(Even now, I\u2019m still not good at it\u2014every time I review someone\u2019s work, I need time to mentally prepare myself.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And of course, there\u2019s the language barrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I never had much interest in traveling abroad in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I never imagined I\u2019d live in another country (because my ability to learn English is terrible).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So it was only after I knew I was going to Japan that I started learning Japanese (2023\/03~).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I really admire those people who set a goal from the start and work hard to achieve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“libft”<\/strong> In total, you need to implement about 30\u201340 functions (including the Bonus).<\/p>\n\n\n\n I highly recommend doing the Bonus part as well\u2014 At the end, there\u2019s a machine evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The scariest thing is passing the peer evaluation (3 people) but then failing the machine test afterward\u2014 Fortunately, I passed in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Although the school\u2019s system passed my submission, Don\u2019t ask me why, hahaha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 42\u2019s standards are a mystery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “ft_printf”<\/strong> Be aware that the output may differ depending on the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I worked on it at home using macOS, while the school uses Ubuntu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Make sure to check your work on the school computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “get_next_line”<\/strong> The most annoying part of C language is definitely memory management (hahaha).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Segmentation fault \u2190 a nightmare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Born2beroot”<\/strong> You learn to install a Virtual Machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Packed with all kinds of knowledge points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was extremely difficult for me\u2014 At first, I was obsessed with memorizing all those terms, So my peer, H-san (who has now completed all the projects\u2014truly amazing), Although I was a bit disappointed, I was very grateful to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The second time, I described everything in my own words, By the way, this website exists thanks to what I learned in this assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “exam02”<\/strong> The questions are randomly assigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was really hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I passed on my fifth attempt\u2014absolutely brutal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “minitalk”<\/strong> Maybe you\u2019ve heard that computers are made up of 0s and 1s (binary).<\/p>\n\n\n\n But what does that really mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why can a computer that only uses 0 and 1 display so many characters?<\/p>\n\n\n\n How does a computer receive the commands you send from your keyboard?<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you could only send two types of signals, how would you transmit a message?<\/p>\n\n\n\n All in all, it was a very interesting project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “so_long”<\/strong> I chose so_long<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The task was to make a 2D map-based game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Games sound fun, right? So I picked this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n By the way, even in this age overflowing with 3D games, In the previous project, I learned how text becomes 0s and 1s. so I continued exploring other algorithms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
but I still spent a lot of extra time on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
it\u2019s really fascinating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

which was a relief\u2014
but you can\u2019t avoid the moment where you must<\/em> collaborate with someone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

as expected, many of them are from foreigners or people living far away
who don\u2019t often come to the campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
would make a classmate say: \u201cHuh? Who\u2019s she?\u201d when they hear my name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but in the end, I didn\u2019t do anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started this project determined to struggle through even without a teammate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the first person I ever spoke to at 42 (what a strange twist of fate).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(and apparently, there won\u2019t be any more from now on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
(and it was at 3 a.m.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn\u2019t really want to tell people much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
even if I fail (get expelled), it\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
